Is buying a computer from Lenovo normally this slow?

#1 Post by stkim » Mon Mar 29, 2010 2:58 pm

Hello,

I purchased an x201 3/11/10. I thought it would take 2-3 weeks to arrive. When I called for a status update today they told me the estimated ship date was 4/20/10! Seems a bit unreasonable, especially since I was led to believe it would only take 9 days when I first ordered the computer. Is this normal for Lenovo? This is the first computer I've bought from them. My current computer, a t42p is almost 6 years old and still running strong. With shipping I'm looking at almost 7 weeks of waiting.

Yup, lots of issues w/Lenovo lately. Read some other posts, get current status.

Sucks, but what is one to do, if one wants a new Lenovo?

Yeah, it's becoming common for them sadly. However if you really want to get one now visit your local big box electronics store and buy one from there. You almost certainly will end up spending more (sometimes you actually do save some money) but you will get to walk out of the store with your new laptop.

Huge shortage of employees at many of the factories now in China. This is not only for computer manufacturers but for many out there. Before people were poor and many rushed to work at manufacturers but now many have money and do not want to work at factories. Factories have to pay a lot more money now to get people to work for them which they have not been doing but now have started doing so in the last few weeks due to shortage of labor at the factories.

I placed a few orders in Guangzhou for bags this week and was told I had to wait a month before I could get my order. The order I placed last month is also not ready this time.

Hm....Not good. I called them to see when the computer might be shipped and I was told that I would be placed on some sort of "expedited list". I have no idea whether or not such a list actually exists. Why is it necessary for me to call and deal with their frustrating customer service in order for them to get the machine out to me in a timely manner? So far I am left less than pleased with my interaction with Lenovo as compared to IBM.

I ordered an X200 back on 2/11/2010 and had an expected ship date of 3/29/2010. On the Monday morning of 3/15/2010, the status changed from "In Process" to "Shipped". And I received the laptop that Friday, 3/19/2010.

update:

So after posting a ship date of 4/16/10, I suddenly got an email today saying my computer had been shipped! I had to call customer service twice and sent one email explaining to them how annoyed I was with them. I'm glad I will be getting the computer soon but I really thing they need to stop being so erratic and get their act together.
