brightness keys broken on X201?

#1 Post by gregnorc » Sat May 08, 2010 5:51 pm

So I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Thinkpad X201...

Most everything works, with one exception: The brightness keys.

Manually going into the power managment dialog and trying to manually
change the brightness does not work.

Changing brightness works while the bios screen is still up, once
Ubuntu boots it fails again.

I've Googled around a bit, no one with an X201 seems to have encounted
the error, let alone a fix, so I thought I would post here and see if
anyone had any ideas...

Any help is greatly appreciated... having the brightness stuck at 100%
really dings my battery life.

I'm still waiting for my x201 to arrive, but I'm running Lucid on my X61 and my X40 and the backlight keys work fine. Can you try opening a terminal and using this command:

Code: Select all

$ xbacklight -set 50
If that works, then you'll want to use acpi_listen to see if the backlight keys are being seen by the operating system. They might have changed the ACPI codes in the x201 and we need to make some configuration file changes.
