Hi,

I've just installed Windows 7 x64 on my X300. The cpu temperature gets very high even though im not running any cpu intensive programs. The fan runs continusly high rpm:s. Under Vista the normal cpu temp was between 50-65 degrees C. Under Win 7 my temp is between 65-80 degrees C.. In order to be able to use my x300 I have to change the settings in energy manager so that the cpu use is set to low, but cpu temp still doesnt get lower than 65 degrees..

And yes... I have installed all the Lenovo drivers..

Anyone have the same problem? Anyone solved this issue?

Best regards!

Those are pretty high temps. Is that from running at idle? What happens when you run the laptop under load?

The high temps could be a result of dust around the fan area and on the fan itself. It also could be that you need a new application of thermal compound. I helped apply a new coat to my brothers Toshiba (makes me glad I have an Thinkpad!) CPU and was shocked at how much thermal compound was applied by factory! It was like an ice cream sandwich with vanilla oozing out the sides... and it had become dried. His symptoms were shutdown due to heat.

If you are running the "Aero" theme in Windows 7 you will find that 1-10% of your CPU will be used for a "dwm.exe". This is called desktop window manager.

If this small but constant CPU use is causing high temps you should definitely try cleaning out the system. In the mean time try using "Baisc" theme and see if temps decline?

It doesn´t make any difference if i run Aero or not.. As soon as I start youtube or any other program that put some load on the cpu the temperature explodes and the fan runs at full speed. The temperature is super high even though the fan is running at full speed..

There must be someone els out there who have the same problem..

Thanks,
