X200s HARDWARE MODIFICATIONS

#1 Post by theilluminator » Mon Jun 07, 2010 11:34 pm

I am new here. i appologize in advance if this is the wrong place. I am wondering if

it is possible to do a hardware upgrade and change the cpu/processor to something stronger on x200s?

i have an x200s but i find it is not very powerful. am i able to open it up and swap the cpu for something better?

Any other hardware mods that are possible please let me know. Post it here if its ok.

THANX

Braddah, if I'm correct the CPU is soldered on to the planar. At least it is with the x201 and x201s. So, even if not, you will have to replace with a newer x201s planar. Notebooks are not like desktops. If there is an upgrade path as far as CPU/GPU it's by luck not design. Plus, you are voiding the warranty.

Which CPU do you have? The CPU is indeed soldered to the board. Unless you've got a need to run CPU intensive tasks frequently, the better CPU will have little marginal value. If you're looking for a performance boost, a SSD is more likely to give it to you than a CPU upgrade and it won't void your warranty.

Thank you for all of your replies!!

I use dictation software and other intensive apps and i find my x200s just gets slower n slower. it freezes quite frequently and takes forever to load up. yes use msconfig but still doesnt help. im even thinking of removing the lenovo brand software stuff on it, however i read through here that it doesnt help much.

im open to all suggestions!!!

Braddah, your problem is not the CPU. It is probably memory. Disable unecessary programs in start up. No need to delete the programs, just disable using MSCONFIG. Then add some RAM. If 2GB now, go 4 GB or 6GB. Also try ReadyBoost if you want using the highest class SD card or USB drive (at least 8GB).

I agree, it's not your CPU. It's rather RAM or HDD or just bloated software. I would recommend a clean installation of your operating system.
