**Resolved**X200, External LCD, Docked, Resume Problem

#1 Post by Harryc » Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:39 pm

I have an X200 (running Vista Business) that I put in a dock while at home. I run a tweaked 'Power Source Optimized" Power Manager profile. Hooked to the dock is a 20" Samsung LCD via Displayport to DVI adapter cable (genuine Lenovo FRU). I run the laptop with the lid closed while docked. If I sleep the X200, and then when I attempt to resume from sleep there is a blank screen on the external LCD. The only way I can make the external LCD show an image is to reboot or to open/close the X200's LCD lid. I can't think of a reason why this is happening. My Macbook Pro (for example) sleeps in clamshell mode and resumes just fine over displayport/DVI to the same external LCD. I have the latest Lenovo drivers installed. I have not tried the latest Intel video drivers...should I? Any other ideas?

Edit: One other caveat in my setup...I run all my docked machines through a DVI KVM switch.

Have you tried "un-tweaking" the power management...by setting it back to a default type setting? My Windows 7 - X200 mostly works fine after waking up from sleep. The mouse moving works fine, but once in a while it takes about 30 seconds or longer to wake up as if there is something else going on in the background.

I wish Lenovo would install HDMI in all ThinkPads. That would/should make hooking up to most newer monitors a snap and keep it compatible with the very inexpensive automatic switchers.

Try eliminating all your interfaces and non-standard tweaks one at a time to see which one solves the problem...just my two cents.

So I reset the current 'Power Source Optiized' profile back to defaults, and saved/exited/rebooted. Same problem ... nice idea though, thanks. I may try hooking up VGA next to eliminate Displayport/DVI as an issue., In fact that would eliminate the KVM too since it is a direct connection to the X200 from the LCD.

Try these steps:

Try the Intel video driver from Microsoft Windows update

Bypass the KVI switch

Blame it on the Ultrabase displayport :?

I tried a direct VGA connection from the Ultrabase to the LCD. Same problem. So it is not a Displayport or a KVM issue. I'll try the Windows drivers next.

I uninstalled the Lenovo/Intel driver (8.15.10.2057) and installed the Windows/Intel driver (8.15.10.2119) and the same issue persists with resume from sleep. I am at a loss for next steps. I suppose it could be a 'Vista' thing. I plan on installing an SSD and W7 on this machine in the near future, so I can eliminate that as a possibility as well.

Edit: I uninstalled the Fingerprint reader software and disabled the fingerprint reader in BIOS, same issue. I did find another work-around though beside opening / closing the LCD lid. If I use the KVM hot keys to switch away from the X200 and then back again, the external LCD pops right up. So, this is really coming down to the X200 looking for an active LCD signal or interrupt (or a toggle of one or both) and not seeing it on resume from sleep. This is weird.

I like your KVM fix the best. Going to Windows 7 may or may not solve the issue.

I deep-six'd Vista from all my hardware. It had too many issues. Glad to hear you solved the problem.
