My thinkpad x200 was perfectly fine until I wanted to reset it for the school year with vista, because it came with windows xp. Now, the thinkpad isn't working at all. Somebody help me, school starts tomorrow and i need it ready by then! Please hurry as I will be checking this forum within the following hours for support. Thank you!!!! :-(

What do you mean by 'isn't working?' Does it refuse to turn on at all, or does it boot up? If it boots up, does it give you any error messages? If it doesn't boot up, does it beep at you? We'll need more information from you before we can help you find out what's wrong.

It boots up just fine, but when i try to login to the administrator account... that's when everything goes down hill! I would prefer the instructions from scratch, I have all of the lenovo discs that came with the machine! HELP ME!

What does it do when you're trying to log in? Are you able to get to your desktop, or not? Also, were you trying to reinstall using a recovery partition, or were you loading your OS via discs?

Just put the first disc in and boot the machine and follow the prompts. If the recovery partition is still intact hold down the thinkvantage key on boot, and then do a factory restore...and then follow the prompts.

Will he need to zero out his hard drive first before a reinstall???

If so here's a link IBM-BOY

DBAN

I remember being told that results would be better if my hard drive were either killdisked or if DBAN was used.

No, the recovery utility will write over what's there if the previous installation was Windows.

Wow! I feel bad that he has school tomorrow and then this happens! I hope he at least logs back in and gives more detail so there's more to work with.

He he :) Poor kiddo. It would be nice if he could show off his x200 to all the other kids.. create a new generation of Thinkpadders like us... But early on... hence, more proliferation... world domination.. Apple Mac Fanboys...be scared..
PS: If he got OSX on his X200, all the Mac wannabe kids would bow before him.. lol.

Either way, I hope the OP gets some use out of the rebuild instructions.

Sorry! I just freaked out, because school was starting tomorrow (Started today as of now)... sigh. I've put the disks in and tried using the manual, but it isn't working and I would never install OS-X on my thinkpad. Still, I need step-by-step guidance, ok?

1.) I put in the first disc and now it's stopped at a screen with the word lenovo, and a picture, the disc is called recovery disc... NEXT?

Take a deep breath and approach this in a zen-like manner IBM-BOY.

You know, you may as well just format the hard drive and completely reinstall Windows, if you has the Vista disc/Product Key to do it with.

Yes, but try explaining that to an impolite 15 year old :).
