X201s defects
X201s defects
Hello, I received my brand new x201s with the 6-cell battery a few days ago, and noticed some possible defects:
1. The battery does not perfectly fit in the laptop. If I hold the laptop in the air and touch the battery, it introduces play.
Being a large battery, it becomes the two "back legs" of the laptop. The battery's play leads to the instability of the whole laptop, when rested on a hard surface!
2. The plastic micro-hinges of the screen look misused. Please take a look at the pictures here: http://picasaweb.google.com/cmavr8/Thin ... directlink
Are they burnt? Are they broken? Or are they normal?
Thanks a lot!

Have you tried putting piece of paper inside. I read about someone saying inserting a business card will take up the space.

#2) I had to open my X200 and look to see what you were talking about. In your pics the LCD alignment tabs should each be a straight plastic piece. Each one of yours has a bent left edge. That tells me that the LCD is out of alignment, probably too far to the left. They can be adjusted, but if there is damage I'd send it back or to get repaired.
Re: X201s defects
Oh, ok...
It must have been damaged in transit, cause it looks aligned now (I am watching the tabs match the holes perfectly as I close the lid).
Thanks

Fixed the battery woble problem with duct tape:

Bottom view of laptop:

The battery's "legs" are protruding, so the four legs the laptop rests on are the two front ones and the battery's two legs.
And those four legs are NOT level! The laptop is resting on only three of them. This is ridiculous...

Re: X201s defects
You need to call them and return it. The notebook should be level on a flat surface. You can try to see of a new battery helps. I have an x201 with the 6 cell. The battery is tight fitting and the notebook sits level. Have you tried a different table? Put it on the floor or a surface you are sure is flat. Tables actually bend sometimes.cmavr8 wrote:Fixed the battery woble problem with duct tape:

Re: X201s defects
Yes, I'm using flat surfaces, and am rotating it so that it sits with all orientations, and it still has the problem. It even has it with the battery removed, so it's the laptop's feet that are wrong, or the whole laptop must be wry...
Are the rubber "feet" glued on plastic? I could take one out, stick it to a 2mm thick film and glue it back.

Re: X201s defects
I think you have done enough assesment. The machine does not lay flat and the battery is loose. I would reject it and get a refund or replacement. No need for you to remedy a manufacturing defect by attempting to repair yourself or compromise your expectation of a machine that lays flat and has a tight fitting battery. I think those are reasonable expecations for a consumer. Don't take no for an answer if you get any pushback.
FYI I have an x201 with 6-cell. Lays flat, battery is completely flush and tight. So its not normal IMO.
