Will the X200 series be soon discontinued?

Based upon Lenovo's recent cost costing measures it is beginning to look to me as if the X200 series might not be kept in the line much longer- as it sells much fewer than Lenovo's more popular and cheaper machines.

What do forum-ites think about this: X200 discontinued soon with no direct replacement?
With the only business class - well built, models being bigger machines like the 400 series.

Are you referring to any particular event? Can you point us to some numbers showing that X200 series are not selling too well?

I've seen a lot of people saying that Lenovo probably won't be making a X310 and I can understand that but I thought that X201 is a rather successful model. Unlike other X series models, it has a very long predecessor history (X200, X61, X60, X41, ...), its a well established line.

Besides, it's the only line with a tablet.

I don't know, I know a guy who bought one summer 2009, and mine is from February this year, but they're no longer on the website so I think they've stopped production and are now only making X201's. As far as I know they build these things per order so they're still pumpin' em out as long as they're on the website.

I'm sure it's true that Lenovo sold a lot more of their cheaper options than they did their premium ones, but on the other hand Lenovo is the fourth largest computer manufacturer in the world, so of course the majority of their sales will be to ordinary consumers looking for cheaper computers. The same can be said for HP or Dell, but they're still making EliteBooks and Latitudes - last I checked.

Edit - ok, so checking the website... all I can see available to buy direct from Lenovo is the x100e. That's odd.

Well, I just checked and I see the option to order the X201 direct. No option for an X201s still, but you can customize and buy an X201.

The X20x series is pretty well-regarded as one of the best ThinkPad models to come out in a while, and from what I can tell is really popular. I doubt Lenovo's going to kill a bread and butter system like this when the X100 is pretty much a ThinkPad branded netbook.

Yeah, I just checked again. I'm now seeing both the X201 and X201s available from lenovo.com.

You know, you say you reckon the X20x series is really popular, and I'd agree with you in that among ThinkPad users, the X20x lineup is pretty well regarded, but in a more general context I think I've seen two ever that weren't mine or my friends. Put that up against the sea of Dell's and I wonder just how it is that Lenovo is such a huge company. Well, China I guess.

Corporate customers.

The office I currently work at goes through what must be hundreds of ThinkPads a year and they're a pretty small shop. I can't imagine how many boxes a Fortune 500 buys each year...

The x200/x201 or x200 series is a flagship product. If Lenovo were BMW the x200 would be the 3 series with the x201s analogous to a 3 series M3. Very likely they would take out one of the leading products in the ultraportable market.
