Third Party SSDs in x201s

Hi. My company is getting us new laptops and has recommended the x201s. I'd like to have an SSD drive and the IT guy told me he'd have enough budget if I forego a new monitor (yeah!).

The problem is that the Lenovo branded X25-M 160GB drives (part 43N3435) are out of stock with no replenishment date. There are Intel branded X25-M in stock but the generic response from the seller's tech support is just to send a list of Lenovo branded part numbers when asked what is compatible. Are their truly no third-party drives compatible with the x201s (hard to believe.) Has anyone used an Intel-branded X25-M? Lastly, it appears there are two versions of the X-25M - one is 7.0mm thick and the other is 9.5mm thick. Which fits in an x201s?

Thanks,
Tom

The X201s uses a standard 2.5" SATA hard drive. Any 2.5" SATA drive should work. It needn't be a Lenovo drive to work. Plus a third party drive will probably be less expensive.

Thanks. Any idea whether the 7.0mm thick version or the 9.5mm version is a better fit?

There is a caddy with rails that should insure that either size works. Personally I'd go with the more popular size, which is 9.5mm

9.5mm 80GB Intel-brandet Postville (X25-M G2) working fine here in X201s that came with a regular HDD from Lenovo :)
