X200 LED ---> CCFL Conversion

#1 Post by Bibin » Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:32 pm

I juts got my X200 to find out it's the LED backlit version - a shame, considering I removed the digitizer and everything from my Boe-Hydis AFFS LCD to prep it for swapping!

What parts would I need to convert this to a CCFL compatible model?

Obviously the first and foremost is the Inverter board - what I do not get is that it seems to fit in the same spot as the front panel LED board - does the inverter also have these LEDs and fulfill that function?

Secondly the LCD data cable for the LED panel is VERY WIDE - much wider than the one on the Boe-Hydis panel; I'm guessing the CCFL one uses a different data cable? For this I don't know the FRU, so it's hard to purchase a cable.

I might just trade for a CCFL X200 but it would be a lot nicer to see if I can use mine as it's a very nice brand new X200!

Thanks, I got that and the inverter for $40 shipped in the US.

After that it's just a cable swap and inverter installation, yes?

Success! The LCD swap is very easy - not even close to the amount of steps stated in the service manual. Just removing the keyboard, keyboard bezel, and LCD bezel is enough. The AFFS LCD is truly amazing.

quoted from my post on NBR:
it's VERY easy to do as long as you're somewhat mechanically inclined.

Lenovo's hardware manual makes you do all kinds of unecessary garbage - truly it's a matter of:

LCD Bezel removal
Keyboard removal
Keyboard Bezel removal
Unscrewing LCD Cable from motherboard
removing LCD panel from top lid, leaving cable attached
lift out original panel & cable
install new panel and cable
put it back together

They want you to remove the palmrest, the wi-fi card, the antennae, the hinges; it's all very silly.
