Buying X201 - Help in Questions

#1 Post by Danny Manabat » Sat Oct 09, 2010 8:04 am

Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying an X201. 3249-MDU. Here are the specs

Product: ThinkPad X201i 3249-MDU [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: i3-370M(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11bgn wireless, WWAN option, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64

I want to buy the integrated camera (from ebay) = is it possible to have an integrated camera in this model? Will this fit and work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Thinkpad-X201-X ... 483b52cf8f

I wanted the 64-bit model and with camera. The model above is the nearest available ... Any help/response is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

It looks like the original part and it should fit.

What are you going to do about the microphone? (assuming you want one...for Skype and such)

Have you thought of a way to connect it internally? Which Intel WLAN did you get? With the 3x3, you can just use one antenna line for the webcam.

If/When you get it, let me know if it comes with a Trackpad. I've been eye-ing the 3249-MDU model and they seem somewhat vague in that regard (most sellers adverties "UltraNav", but I'm not sure if they understand UltraNav as just the trackpoint or both trackpoint and trackpad).

What is the problem with the microphone?
My X200s (7465-CTO) doesn't have a camera, but still there is a mic, to the left from LED indicators panel.

Harryc,

Thanks for the info.

fem,

'Dont know yet if the microphone is needed or not. I will try to buy the camera tomorrow. The WLAN for this model is Intel 1000 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN.

What did you mean by "With the 3x3, you can just use one antenna line for the webcam." Does this mean the camera is or will be connected to the antenna? I am not following ...

fatpolomanjr

the 3249-MDU definitely has a touchpad and trackpoint. the seller is a friend. the unit is new.

More questions guys, don't go. Since there's a microphone included in the X201 camera for sale, this means I will have a microphone that will be just stored, to be used only if and when the X201 microphone is broken?

To which processor does the i3-370m compare? Anybody there have X201 with i3-370m? How's the battery life? I am asking because I am not well read about the i3-370m performance in a laptop. Any info about this should help me make a decision.

Thanks again.
