Are the black areas around the display normal or not?

#1 Post by fnacer » Tue Oct 19, 2010 4:18 pm

I purchased an reburbished X200 tablet from Lenovo a month or so ago. But I didn't get to use it until last week. When I did, I noticed the black bands in the LCD around the edges of the display area. Not only were they wide, the right and left ones were uneven, resulting in a display that looked off kilter.

After playing around with the screen resolution, I called support to ask whether this was normal. The rep I spoke to said no and suggested I send it in for service. But before I do, I'd like to hear from others who have an X200 whether their display goes all the way to the edge of the bezel or whether they see the same black bands I do.

Looking forward to your response. Thanks.

F.

My X200's monitor displays content all the way out to the bezel. It's not a tablet model, though.

If you have the frameless X200 tablet display, it can sort of look as you describe...

dr_st is probably right.

does it look like this picture? --> http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/con ... T_side.jpg

if so then that's by design.   the black area is due to the bezel being covered by the writing surface to allow the pen full motion without hitting the bezel itself.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, my display looks exactly like the one shown in the picture.

Erik, are you saying that the black border is to allow the pen to go to the edge of the writing area without hitting the bezel?

Just to confirm, there is no point in sending the machine back. Right? Or is there a possibility of getting the tablet equipped with a newer screen whose display does go all the way to the LCD bezel?

Thanks.

Such a screen does not exist.

What he meant was that if there was a bezel, your tablet pen would hit the edge of the bezel (being caught on the bezel) instead of gliding over it.
That was why they had the frameless version.. I think the unevenness was for easier orientation on which is upright (when in tablet mode)?
