X201 With No Fingerprint Reader Can Be Replaced With One?

This query is about the fingerprint reader in an X201i. I just purchased an X201i 3649-mdu. It has no fingerprint reader, no bluetooth and no camera.

I bought a camera from ebay. The camera is for an X200. I also got an X200 with fingerprint reader, bluetooth and camera.

I was able to fit the X200 camera from ebay, although its only 1.3 megapix. The mimo antenna interferes with the location of the camera so I have to remove the cable. I haven't closed the LCD yet. I still plan to buy a bluetooth. There's a blank slot for the bluetooth.

The camera is already working and detected. I have tried it already and it works. I removed the bluetooth from my X200 and it fits nicely on the X201. So I would go ahead and buy the bluetooth too.

My question is about the fingerprint reader in the X201i. When I opened it, I can only see 2 connectors. One is for the keyboard and the other is for the touchpad of the X201i. Has anyone bought a palm rest with touchpad / fingerprint reader, and successfully fitted in an X201i? Is there a 3rd connector for the fingerprint reader, or are there only 2 connectors - where the touchpad connector also doubles as the fingerprint connector?

Any response would be welcome. I could not go ahead and buy a new palm rest with touchpad and fingerprint reader. I looked in the X200 and see only 2 connectors. Of course the X200 does not have a touchpad.

I'm fairly certain the touchpad and fingerprint connectors are one and the same. It is on the T-series, so I presume it is for the X201 as well. Whether or not an X200 palmrest would fit on an X201 is another story.

Thanks for the reply! That was fast ... I was planning to buy an X201 palmrest with fingerprint reader and touchpad. I am unsure if the fingerprint function of the palmrest with finger print and touchpad - will in fact work with my X201 that has no fingerprint reader when I bought it. So the worry ...

It doesn't matter whether or not you ordered your X201 with or without the fingerprint reader and/or touchpad; just install an X201 palmrest and the motherboard would work with it regardless of which components are put on it. It makes it easier for them to manufacture laptops if the software is compatible with all of the possible hardware combinations for that model.
