If Lenovo were release a slate derivative of existing X20x tablet, how many of you would buy it?

Such a slate would have either C2D or i5/u7 cpu. The LCD will be IPS with existing 12.1 WXGA without an integrated keyboard and hinge. Its weight should be less than 3 lb. Input will be through multitouch and/or pen.

The slate will not have the existing functionality of a notebook. However, it should be powerful enough to multitask and run existing applications. An external keyboard will allow users to use in a "notebook" or text-intensive tasks.

Fujitsu had a slate with a Core 2 Duo, the Stylistic, which they killed off I'm assuming due to poor sales.

There is a number of Fujitsu Stylistic slates on E-bay. Most of them are 4:3 with Pentium III or Pentium M running Win XP. Silver bezels on Fujitsu slates looks dated and less elegant than that for Apple's iPad.

Still these slates should be more powerful and versatile than iPad, though in time the number of apps on iPad will increase. It's kind of too bad that XP Tablet Os on these slates lacks the "modern" multi-touch functionalities being implemented on today's computers.

I would prefer my slate in Thinkpad black, though that may be wishful thinking.

I think the last one with the 1.4GHz ULV Core 2 Duo, the ST6012, was all black. The Stylistic is a full fledged PC in the way a iPad can never be. Though it has it's limitations too, like it's twice as heavy.

What do you mean by that?

PS: Absolutely not. TN panels are horrible, but slates are even worse.

The Stylistic, according to Fujitsu's website, has 160° viewing angles. That would lead one to believe it probably uses a PVA or S-PVA panel.

It looks like the last Stylistic slate was released 2 years ago with a weight of 3.5 lb running C2D SU9400. LCD was wxga.

List price was $1,999. Not too surprising that it didn't sell well.

I was trying to say that, although TN is a large drawback, "being slate" is even a larger drawback. So if i had to choose what to sacrifice (screen type or "being laptop") in my dream IPS laptop, i would choose the former, thereby choosing TN laptop over an IPS slate.

According to lenovo website, X201 tablet "recommended" price is $2064 (of course, nobody sells it for that price), so i don't see the huge difference between lenovo convertibles and fujitsu slates.

Thanks for opening our eyes to Stylistic.

I will buy a Thinkpad Slate if it appears. Hopefully with iCore.

I use a X61t, but a slate will have the advantage of being easier to carry.

A reasonably priced slate can be a big seller. Sub 2lb will be decent weight. 12" or 13" format will be nice. I'd prefer a 4:3 over 16:10 format, though 4:3 is quite unlikely.

iCore CPU will be great but I'd settle for reasonably performing C2D. After collecting various hardwares, it's getting to the point I use different computers for different tasks. A slate will be useful for many non-work related things.
