Replace a standard LCD tablet panel with a multitouch one?

#1 Post by jingorm » Thu Nov 18, 2010 2:43 am

I just got a deal on a gently used X200 tablet ($300!) for the 7449-45U. The only thing it doesn't have is the multitouch screen. Is it possible to swap out the standard screen for a multitouch one? And does anyone know how much the parts would cost to do this?

thanks.

That is a pretty sweet deal. I don't know exactly what's involved, but the standard display is frameless while the multi-touch is not. You might be looking at replacing the whole LCD assembly. Plus the multi-touch adds a layer to the LCD, which is going to complicate things. If you were to say get dust between the layers that's not a good thing. You might be better off selling the thing, hopefully for a profit since you got such a good deal, and applying those profits to one with the multi-touch if that's what you want. Good Luck.
