intel's turbo boost on my i7 x201s?
the x201s (2ghz) is the first machine i have used that has a i7 processor, the turbo boost feature on the i7 chips sounds quite interesting whereby it would overclock my processor when needed.
is there any special programs i need to install for it to do this in windows 7?

Reference - http://www.intel.com/support/processors ... 029908.htmHow is Intel® Turbo Boost Technology enabled or disabled?
Intel® Turbo Boost Technology is usually enabled by default by a switch in the bios where you can either enable or disable operation. Other than this, there are no user controllable settings to change Intel® Turbo Boost Technology operation either in the hardware settings or operating system. Once enabled, Intel® Turbo Boost Technology works automatically under operating system control.
Re: intel's turbo boost on my i7 x201s?
i couldnt find any reference to a turbo boost setting in my bios, but i installed the "Intel® Turbo Boost Technology Monitor" which is just a windows sidebar gadget/widget, loaded up football manager which is quite processor intensive, the bar hasnt budged nor moved off 2ghz, something seems to be wrong with my setup maybe?

The last post in this thread gives a decent explanation of how turbo boost works. The point being in your case that CPU utilization is not the only factor involved in it.

i dont get it, im running on mains, if i cant get football manager which is more of a number cruncher type game so quite processor hungry more than anything, to up the cpu speed, then whats the point?Harryc wrote:The last post in this thread gives a decent explanation of how turbo boost works. Re: intel's turbo boost on my i7 x201s?
aha narrowed it down, its my power scheme!
i have it on "power source optimized" but as soon as i change it to max performance it ramps the speed up when needed, now obviously i dont want it on max performance all the time, only really when im on mains i need the performance, which i what i assume the whole point of "power source optimized" was all about!
found the setting, its "optimize fan control" ..setting that to max performance does the job using any profile and i had it set to "balance all parameters"
..yay!
