Decided an ultrabase might be the best idea for what i want,

Can someone please let me know if I used a displayport>HDMI cable would a film for example which seems good quality on the notebook screen appear ok on a 42" TV or would the quality be dropped (not sure on maximum resolution etc)

Basically what I am after is when at work/out and about I just take my X201 but when at home I can dock it in the ultrbase which will be connected to my TV (with displayport>HDMI) and my surround sound system (headphone jack to RCA?) so I could in theory watch movies/listen to music in a decent quality? Does that sound like it would be any good?

Lastly, could anyone recommend any useful way of controlling this remotely so I wouldn't physically have to use the mouse etc. I use itunes for music so in theory can use my iphone and remote app to do that but for movies in AVI which iTunes doesn't like is there any sort of WMP controller (expresscard/USB?) etc anyone knows of?

Sorry for so many questions but cant find an answer anywhere as obviously large majority of X-Series are purely business use so this doesn't seem to come up very often!

if you are using the X201 with Ultrabase X200, then the DP to HDMI should carry both sound and images. Quality is good, since it is a digital signal connection.

Regarding controller? i just use a Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000, it works equally well in iTunes and WMP.

I use very much the same setup you're proposing on my X200; an UltraBase connected to my 40" 1080p HDTV using DisplayPort to HDMI and a headphone to RCA adapter for my HT receiver. Both sound and picture quality is pretty good, and the added screen resolution is pretty good for Web surfing if I need to do so. The X200 doesn't support audio over DP, but since I can't output audio to my receiver through my HDTV it's no big loss.

i went for the above in the end and all arrived a couple of days ago and works great, the X201 does output sound over DP but prefer to use the RCA for surround sound.

Quality is much better than i was expecting with a near perfect HD picture and good quality sound, found a excellent app for my iphone for mouse/keyboard so easy to sit back and surf web/listen to music or watch films in comfort.

Really please and would recommend to anyone looking for a similar set up. Only cost the grand total of £60 delivered for new ultrabase and wires so well worth in my opinion.

did have "Mobile Mouse FREE"

but now upgraded to "Mobile Mouse Pro" for a few extra features like iTunes control etc. works really well in my opinion with a senstive touchpad and acts no different than using the actual touchpad.
