Thinkpad X201s resolution expansion
Dear All,
I have a Thinkpad X201s, the one with the higher resolution of 1440x900, which I am very happy with.
It is constantly used for giving presentations, where I put the screen into clone mode with the projector,
and present. The problem is that the projector is 4:3 which my screen is wider, and the image is stretched
to fit on my monitor. Is there a way to stop this "resolution expansion" happening, so that, for example,
if I am doing a presentation at 1024x768, only the pixels involved are shown on the screen, surrounded by
a black border?
I have rooted around in the BIOS, and found no such option, which has existed on other laptops that I have had.
Any ideas?
Eddy

i don't think you can do it with the intel graphics card adapter.
Current ThinkPad: T430u, T430s, X1 Carbon, X1, X230t, X220t, X230, X220, X201t, W520, W701ds, T500, T420 and many more

eddy - welcome to the forum!
right-click on the desktop and select 'graphics properties...'. this will open the intel display control panel.
under the 'general settings' tab you should see an option for 'scaling'. set this to 'center image'. then, set the 'resolution' option to 1024x768. click 'apply' and you should see a 1024x768 desktop with an all-black border.

Thanks for the replies and the welcome... I am actually on Linux at the moment,
so I was kind of hoping for a hardware solution!

You're in Linux? Rats: That kills my suggestion, too: Press <Fn> +F7 and explore the options under "Choose presentation or display scheme".

...however I have not explored those hardware buttons, I'll be sure to give it a try soon, thanks for that one!
