X201 Bluetooth

#1 Post by AndyR » Thu Jan 06, 2011 3:29 pm

Hi,

bit of a long shot but would anyone have any idea why the onboard bluetooth on a X201 wouldn't connect to a iPhone 4?

It connects perfectly to my iPhone 3GS but can find the iPhone 4 but as soon as I try to connect it just loads and says there is an error.

I have used a cheap ebay USB bluetooth adapter in the X201 and that connects ok (extremely slow but does the job) so it can't be anything else than either the drivers or actual hardware I guess?

I have tried to see if there are any newer drivers but as it is only 3 weeks old I would have thoughtit would be up to date?

Could anyone give me any ideas on what to try? I would really like to be able to use the bluetooth to tether my iPhone I dont want to use USB as I hate having it plugged in and truely wireless is what I am after.

Giday Andy;
I have a X201(see below in Sig) and not sure which version you have - my BT works very nicely with iPhone4 and has nicely conntected as 'tethered' nicely.
However i just tested it for few mins and as I have a built in Gobi sim ; I dont need to do that option.......
Might be wise to use Lenvo SYSTEM UPDATE and Update all the drivers etc-as often even factory items ships with 'older drivers'.....and AFAIK; in win7; the BT drivers are from Windows; no Lenovo ones.....
Sorry not much help; but hope its something
Cheers

thanks for the reply,

I have used lenovo system update and updated everything it had on offer (none were bluetooth but thought worth a try!) also downloaded the drivers from the lenovo website and installed (not 100% what but required a reboot and it has moved a slight step forward, now when I view bluetooth devices it picks up, if i right click on my iPhone and go to options it shows the services it offers which it didn't before.

Still will not connect/pair though. Just says there is an authentication error.

I can't understand why it can connect to a 3GS, and it works when using a external USB bluetooth adapter but refuses to pair with a iPhone 4. I was hoping it was a X201 thing not just mine!

Tried that did have a little effect in that it can now see the BT service the iPhone offers but still won't connect.

I will try apple support but as the iPhone will connect to a USB BT adapter I can't see how it's the phone?
