x201t inking very choppy near screen edges

Edit: I've included an image that shows the behavior I'm talking about. The sentence all the way on the left of the page is visibly more choppy than the sentence away from the edge. I tried to write both of them at the same speed and about the same size. (see: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/8937/x201ttestb.png )

Additionally, when using any drawing/inking program when you run the pen off the edge of the display, it creates a horizontal line across the whole display - this is very annoying (especially with the first problem of choppy response at the edges) when taking notes on the margins of documents. Is this how these tablets normally behave? Should I send it in to Lenovo to diagnose the problem?



I have a relatively new x201t that I'm using for school (homeworks, note taking etc..). The tablet works amazingly when writing at least an inch from the edge of the screen (the edge of the display, not the edge of the wacom layer that extends past the display). However, when I write in the "margins" the response is very choppy. I'm using the Lenovo drivers. Is there any way to tweak some settings or perhaps use a different driver to reduce this issue?

by your description it sounds like you have the frameless display, correct?

if so, that's just a layer of plastic.   the wacom digitizer is underneath the display itself and doesn't register once you go outside of the edges.   it should be able to drag your cursor to all four edges of the display though.

by "choppy" do you mean that the cursor shakes or stutters?

I'm not sure what you mean by "frameless display." But, the screen has about 1/4in of a gloss plastic "border" around the screen - which I assume is part of the wacom digitizer or something related to the tablet as I've never seen it on a standard non tablet thinkpad before.

And when I say choppy, i mean that I can write (by hand, of course) a word in the middle of the screen with letters that are about 1/4in tall or a little bit smaller. But, on the margins of the screen when I try to write that small the letters come out distorted because you can visibly see the on screen cursor "struggling" to keep up with where the pointer of the pen actually is.

You can also see this when you move the pen over the screen slowly and just watch where the pen pointer moves. In the middle of the screen, the pen pointer moves in a very fluid motion, jumping a single pixel at a time. At the edge of the screen it's much jumpier. It will move 2-3 pixels at a time.

my X200T has the same design.   normal models have a raised bezel around the perimeter.   in any case, the glossy surface you're referring to is simply the writing surface.   it's not active in any way.

how close to the edge of the display (not the writing surface) does it start to get choppy?   1cm?   5mm?   does it happen on all four edges?

Yes, it's the frame less bezel.

It is noticeably choppy starting between 1 and 1.5cm from the edges on all 4 sides.
