Will a 12.1" do?
Will a 12.1" do?
Hi
First time poster.
I have had an Dell Latitude D630 with 800x1280 for the past 3½ year.
But now I will propebly exchange it for a X201 with 800x1280 or a T410 with 900x1440.
I have for a while been certain that I would like to have the T410.
But now I am starting to look at the X201, for its low weight and size.
My main concern is if the screen is to small.
It will be used in the following ways:
At the office in a dock with two external monitors.
At home mainly for internet browsing.
At customers I will connect to the customers servers through remote desktop for 3-5 hours, this will be 60-80 days a year.
What do you think?
Kind Regards
Henrik Høy

GIday hen*....
wow nice part of world you live in - I was lucky enough to attend a co-workers wedding @Budolfi Church in Aalgorg; not far from you. Being from australia - love the coastal town - Amazin place & people!!!
D630 = 14in & older as you noted & not worth much - in usa u can get one as cheap as $199 fully recond...... so movin from that to 12in would feel lots lots smaller- not to say near 2-3x price of some of the 14in models !
I would recommend you look at something in 14in from Lenovo - if you want to stay with the SAME LOOK @ screen feel.... also some 14in are not much heavier than the 12inch x201...... and most of them be lots lots lighter than D630!
Some of thinkpads i would recoomend you look @= SL410, L412 or Edge14 (Edge & Sl series are especially nice as they only few models with HDMI connector - for easist connection to EXT HD screen) Also connecting via HDMI= cost effective if you dont want lots of OTHER HARDWARE around (docks now costs 200-300$US) and they not much 'value' in my humble view.......a small USB hub(2-10$) Ext USB Hard Drive for back -50-100$US) and you set for long worryfree deskstop......... and BEST PART - if you ever need to take this on 'road' you cna pack them all in a STD LAPTOP carry case !! (docking stations can be PAINFULL to carry around!!)
Hope this helps you search for replacement(s) ,,,, and cheers from Frozen Land of Rising Sun!
cheers - Skål

Re: Will a 12.1" do?
Welcome to the forums, henhoy.
My wife had a T43p with a 14" screen and now uses an X201 with a 12.1" screen. She loves the X201.
Its screen is clear and easy to read. The machine is much quieter and lighter than the T43p. It is easy to carry round which is important to her. Lack of a DVD/CD unit has not caused any problems.
I hope this helps.

Re: Will a 12.1" do?
I had a nice R60 before I got my X200. I don't ever foresee myself getting anything bigger than the 12" in the future. They're just so light and portable, even around the house. A 12" WXGA LCD has a similar pixel density to a 14" WXGA+ LCD. Probably the best thing you can do is head on over to Best Buy or the like and check out some 12" screens to see if you like them.

Slap a 9 cell battery on it and get up to 8 hours of operation...I love my X200.

I recon it will be a X201, T410 or maybe even a T400, as I wants something that will fit in a dock.

Will a 12.1" do?
After a looping day and some beers I was about to suggest the x201 but the T is no slouch! I like my laptops like I like my women..thin light and a little older..
There's something about the x series combination of features and build quality that you won't find in any other laptops.
