X201 and X200 Ultrabase D++ to HDMI w/ audio

I'm finding mixed reports in the forum and on other sites as to whether a DisplayPort to HDMI setup with an X201 in an X200 Ultrabase connected to a TV will transfer audio as well as picture.

Does anyone know why it seems to work in some cases, but not others?

Thanks,

m.

from what i managed to find when i was looking there a few reports of the X200 not outputting audio but the X201 does. Also certain cables offer audio and others dont...

Not much help I know, but from my experience my X201 with ultrabase does give audio through HDMI.

It works fine ... As long as you set the output device in control panel for sounds, to push audio out to the TV device.

I'm running an x201 with win 8.1 piped as HDMI thru a Yamaha AV amp to an old LG TV. My displayport just outputs via a little hdmi dongle straight to the AV which in turn outputs to the TV.

Despite all this intermediate hardware, the PC immediately picks up the TV as a second display, sees it's an LG, and with a bit of resolution tweaking in control panel, it does 1920x1080 fine.

Audio also works, once the selection is right you get all sound from the hdmi (if you want) but you can choose sound thru the PC as well. And it works in glorious surround/5.1 44khz (try the sound control panel test which pings each speaker separately).

I used a startech dongle, inexpensive.

If you are using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, the adapter can be the problem with audio not being passed. Happened to me. Try a different adapter. The first one I got from amazon.com didn't pass audio, but the second one I got from monoprice works fine.
