X201 Tablet Webcam Lockup
X201T running W7 Pro 64-bit
I have a peculiar issue with the webcam. I'll start off by saying this only started happening when I removed it from the ultrabase without undocking it, with the webcam on. (bad idea, I know)
If I tilt the screen at all while previewing it, (so far I've only used Fn+F6 yawcam, and yahoo messenger to do this) the webcam will lockup, and eventually either shuts off; or is removed from device manager and is replaced with "unrecognized USB device".
It does this 100% of the time if tilted forward, but tilting backwards it doesn't do it near as often.
After a restart it may or may not come back up as the integrated camera. Turning the screen side to side doesn't do this, and using it stationary works fine.
Another thing is, if used in tablet mode, moving it quickly in any direction will also cause this same issue. I'm not sure if this is now a hardware issue, or just software.
I've reinstalled the driver software numerous times. Both with the setup utility, and just installing via device manager itself, no luck. Any other suggestions besides starting over from scratch? Thanks!

Re: X201 Tablet Webcam Lockup
Update
I tested the unit using cheese in Ubuntu, and it exhibited the same issues. locking up moving the screen, then showing an "input/output error" and ceasing to work. I guess I'll call lenovo on this one.

Hey. How is that webcam behaving on your x201t. I have the very same issue. I have this pc around 2 months now, and the first few weeks all was well. Then, after converting to or from tablet mode i get a "Unrecognised usb device" message from windows and the webcam freezes if is on. Now its so bad, that it hardly works at all. What did Lenovo say? Was it a bad camera or a cable leading to the camera issue?

I have not called them yet, but I will be doing so soon. I'll keep you informed of what they say.
Just the other night, it was doing it even worse. I was sitting on the couch and only touching it very gently and it would pop up repeatedly "unrecognized USB device" on the taskbar. My guess is the cable has been damaged where it comes out of the screen and enters the hinge, but we'll see.

Re: X201 Tablet Webcam Lockup
Update: I sent it in under warranty. Lenovo sent me a box and 1 day shipping label, had it back in 2 days. So far it works perfectly now. According to the sheet, they replaced the webcam for "no video".
Re: X201 Tablet Webcam Lockup
Well i replaced my camera 4 days ago and all seems well. It must have been a bad batch or someting because the package said "new batch, batch complete" on it. So i guess it wasent the cable after all.
