I was surprised that the T420 was announced last week (along with new T520 and W's) but not the x220. Anyone have any insights here?

Historically, the X comes after the T. I'll guess next month, but it gets here when it gets here.

The X220 is supposed to be announced around the 1st March and available on 19th April; according to some roadmap posted on Notebookreview forums.

The roadmap was quite good in predicting L/T/W announce and release dates; however it seems that it failed with X. It is March 2nd already, and still no news on X220 :(

This datasheet gives some more info on the X220 features:
http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/ww/wc ... asheet.pdf

Interesting parts:
  • USB 3.0 only with the fastest CPU (i7-2620M, 2.7GHz)
  • IPS display option (1366x768)
  • An improved latching mechanism
  • Buttonless touchpad (45% larger surface area)
  • width/height difference to X20x: +10 mm / -3.5 mm
  • DisplayPort and VGA on the laptop
  • new UltraBase (UltraBase Series 3)
  • 720p HD camera
  • new batteries (3, 6, 9 cells)
  • external battery pack snapping on similarily to the UltraBase (gives up to 23 hours along with the 9 cell battery)
The IPS option is awesome but it's a shame they had to go with 16:9. I can't imagine having even less vertical resolution than the WXGA (1280x800) on my X200.

The X220 on the leaked photos had no lid latches and this datasheet mentions an "improved" latching mechanism. I wonder what that means. Magnets?

Saw this image link posted at Lenovo forums in a "T420S? can't wait for it? when?!" thread.

GA would be general availability. Probably need connections to get one before the GA date.

It was also mentioned in that thread by Perfguy (a Lenovo employee): "@Andy, can't say for sure, but normally when we ship, it's US-English first and then we start producing languages in waves in succession, usually separated by a week per lang group. For you, FIGS I believe is early in the wave rollout. That's the long winded way to say a week or so after the US release."

324 hours achieved with configuration including ULV CPU, 300nit 12.5”HD IPS display, 2.5” SSD, 1GB
I wonder whether there will be an ULV CPU option... the available CPUs list we saw before only lists standart-voltage (35W TDP) CPUs...

from the footnotes:

read into that what you will. ;)
