Is it possible to put an x200 motherboard into an x200s chassis?

the motherboard will physically fit but the X200s' fan isn't compatible.

So I can then buy a x200s fan and with it any x200 motherboard fits into a x200s chassis? Great!!

Not quite! Two points: one more serious, the other less serious.
(1) The X200s fan will not be adequate for the X200 processor's cooling requirements, and
(2) the X200s base case has an extra stand-off in the front which you will have to "shave off" so it does not come into contact with the X200 motherboard.
Note: An X200s motherboard fits better in an X200 chassis than vice versa!

Thanks! I am running an intel gpu 15 inch T60 with T2400 (1,8 GHZ) for around 2 years with 99,9% in silent mode, I only cool it with tpfancontrol when temperature reaches 85 celsius.

I was thinking about doing the same with the "fake" x200s. Buying a cheap x200, do the affs mod and buy a cheap x200s bottom chassis, fan and palm rest for less than 70 euro and move the x200 parts inside the x200s chassis. I have two questions:

- What are the temperatures of the p8400 when not cooled?
- If I undervolt the P8400 with rmclock, do I then have the su - chip from the x200s? Isn't the x200s cpu the same x200 cpu but runs with lower voltage?

Don't know. Probably will get pretty hot, above its maximum temperature. The maximum temperature rating is 105 degree centigrade. Chance of damaging the CPU gets high once the max temperature is exceeded.

Most likely this will not work. My understanding is that Intel assigns the CPU model based on test results of CPU's as they are cut from the die. They are separated into performers that can run hot at high frequencies, mid-range performers at mid voltages, low-voltage SU chips for low power, etc. You can call it CPU cherry picking. They will even "recycle" faulty yet repairable chips into Pentium and other low end CPU's.

So taking a P8400 and running at low voltage will not likely give you an SU chip and there may be a limit on how low voltage the chip will run before it stops working. By the way X200s run SL chips not SU. If you want an SU or SL chip thermal performance, get an SU or SL chip, not a P8400.

A P8400 would be limited to a minimum of 0.8750V.

My P8700 has SuperLFM, 6x, and 7x all at 0.8750V, which suggests more room for undervolting, but is locked out.
