X300 BIOS lock

#1 Post by miscthree » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:52 pm

Not sure exactly triggered this, but my X300 is requesting a bios password during startup, showing a cursor next to a little computer icon and lock symbol.

I had been searching this forum on my iPhone using tapatalk but the search function is weak.

Do I have to call lenovo support to get the bios password?

Recently I used the laptop off the battery..and a friend removed the battery while it was on standby to 'check the weight' lol. Afterwards it requested the bios password.

What can I do? Please help!!

there's no lenovo master bios password i've ever heard of. they'll likely tell you to send the machine in for a mb replacement.

forum rules also prohibit discussion of password circumvention, so you might not get much more info here.

sorry...

Ouch. Very ouch. But if a correct password is known and entered, will the machine work properly?

I just answered my own question.

I entered the correct password and everything works fine. WHEW.

Putting the soldering tools away now ;)

What appears to have happened is that the CMOS battery was also removed. That will trigger the request for a BIOS password (if set).

X300 BIOS lock

Yes, initially the machine displayed a date/time error and CMOS battery error just prior to the motherboard requesting the bios password.

My laptop is second hand from eBay, the seller was nice enough as well as organized enough to recall the password for me.

That was as close to bricking a laptop as I ever want to get..thanks!
