i7-620lm: Will DDR3 PC3-10600 actually run at 10600? Power?

#1 Post by cellepo » Mon Mar 14, 2011 5:23 pm

I have a x201tablet (type 3093a75) with a i7-620lm that can have up to 8gb RAM.

I have done my best to google my own answers to this, but all I can figure out is that I can at least USE either DDR3 PC3-10600 or DDR3 PC3-8500 RAM...
But will DDR3 PC3-10600 actually operate at 10600, or will it downclock to 8500? Does either use more power/resources?

Thanks!

http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/

Your processor's bus speed seems to be 1066, so I would think that the ram would run at 1066, which would seem to be the pc3-8500.

I would run crucial's scanner and see what crucial recommends.

I always tried to get higher clocked ram and let it clock back. It seems to run cooler that way.
Ram chips can run fairly hot sometimes.
