X200 / X201 tablets hard drives failing at a high rate

My company has deployed X200 and X201 tablets running Windows XP and the (Hitachi) hard drives are failing at an alarming rate. Users are receiving a BSoD showing either hardware errors, unmountable boot volume, or no O/S found. PC Doctor and Spinrite tests show the drive as failed with uncorrectable data errors or read element failed. HDD Regenerator shows a write delay and all sectors as bad.
The T400, X301(ssd), T60P and T61 Thinkpads also deployed to our users do not experience this type of failure, it only seems to be the tablets. APS is active and all Lenovo drivers and hard drive firmware is up to date. The tablets show no outward signs of damage to indicate they have been dropped or otherwise damaged. We do encrypt all of our drives with Safeguard Easy 4.11but that should not render drive sectors unreadable or the other Thinkpad models we have would be failing as well.
Has anyone else experienced this type of hard drive failure with tablets? We have rebuilt close to 100 tablets in the last 3 months due to hard drive failure which seems way too high for Thinkpads.
