sound problems via headphones/display port

#1 Post by akorn » Wed Apr 06, 2011 8:18 am

Hej,

have had my X301 for a few months now and am quite happy. Sound seems to be my main issue:

1. Trebles really suck, even with excellent in-ear headphone (Sennheiser CX300), scraping digital noise instead of crystal-clear sound. It shows most easily with classical music, strings and soprano vocals are worst. Does anyone have similar issues?

2. I got myself a display-port cable to connect an external screen (NEC), hoping that I could utilize its speakers. But I do not get sound, the X301-internal speakers remain activated. Win 7 indicates Conexant 20561 SmartAudia HD in Sound -> Playback, no other device. How can I tell Windows to redirect the sound to the display speakers?

Cheers,
akorn

Sadly the X30x don't send audio over DisplayPort. You have to use the analog audio jack or an external USB soundcard which might resolve your quality issue.

Also remember that ThinkPads are business, not multimedia machines.
