Atheros based wifi card for x201t that WON'T trigger hissy

#1 Post by pupster » Thu Apr 14, 2011 5:28 pm

Anyone have a 802.11N card that will work in my Thinkpad x201t w/out giving it a hissy fit? I want to install OSX...:o)

From searching this forum, I know about FRU 43Y6465, but that card doesn't support 802.11N... :-(

However, does anyone know if this part # will work w/out a bios mod? 42T0825

EDIT:

Okay, I searched some more and found the "whitelist" of parts (FRU) for the X201 tablet.

I see two FRUs that seem to have the same name:

60Y3177 and 43Y6553

Both are listed as a "ThinkPad 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II"

It seems some documents suggest the 60Y3177 is a Realtek. Does anyone know for sure if the 43Y6553 is an Atheros based card?

This auction is for a 43Y6553 and the card pictured has a Realtek part number (RTK-RTL8191SE). That's certainly not conclusive proof, but it looks like 43Y6553 is probably a Realtek.

There are BIOSes available for the X201 that have the whitelist removed. Google for "X201 bios whitelist removal". I'm using a Sparklan branded Atheros in my X201 with a modified BIOS and haven't had any issues (that I'm aware of).

Hm..yeah...thanks I know about the modded bios, but I was looking to not have to mod my bios. That may not be possible, I guess, since none of the official FRUs are Atheros-based. Is there an expresscard based or SD card based solution people have used?
