Sorry if these are dumb questions. Can I use one of the new mSATA SSD drives in the X201? If so, are there any models that won't work? Finally, will using backup and restore to clone onto the new drive work perfectly, or is there a risk of misaligned sectors that will degrade performance? Thank you very much for any input.

the X201 and earlier systems aren't set up electrically for mSATA drives.   in short, they simply won't work.
