F3507g with T-Mobile on X301

Anyone had luck using a F3507g WWAN card (43Y6479) with T-Mobile USA? I've got it setup on my X301 running Windows 7 with the latest drivers. I can connect OK, but I only get EDGE speeds. There is a strong 3G signal in this area, so I don't believe reception is the issue.

Anyone had luck using F3507g with T-Mobile 3G service in the United States?

T-Mobile USA provides 3G services on the 1700/1900MHZ bands and appears to split uplink (1700MHz) and downlink (2100MHz) frequencies as far as I can tell. T-Mobile USA also roams onto some 850MHz band service is some locations, and supports GRPS/EDGE on the 1900MHz band.

The F3705g card supports 3G operation on the 850/1900/2100MHz bands and GRPS/EDG on the 850/900/1800/1900MHz bands, so it will not work with the 1700/2100MHz 3G coverage from T-Mobile USA, and you would experience the symptoms you describe.

The 1700/2100MHz dual band approach is not used much for 3G services globally, so it doesn't have great support outside of devices specifically aimed at the North American Market.

AT&T has started the process to buy T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom, so once the regulatory process have churned for a while (maybe a year or so) T-Mobile customers should have access to AT&T 850MHz band 3G services.

Cheers,
