X200 @Wifi-N 5G channel

#1 Post by ahllau » Wed May 04, 2011 3:11 am

Any body had experience on running X200 on 5G Wifi Channel?

My new Asus R56U is a dual band router, my X200 can detect & connect both 2.4G & 5G channel, but only 2.4G is usable. For 5G channel even I can successfully connected, the web connection is very poor and no more than 2 page can be shown before disconnected.

But my Macbook Pro can use 5G channel without any problem.

I want to identify is it a router problem or my X200's wifi problem.

My X200 with the Intel 5100 card connects just fine with 5Ghz wifi. Better, actually, than the 2.4Ghz--but that's probably because there are a dozen-odd 2.4Ghz wifi access points around my apartment, and no other 5Ghz routers.

If you can connect just fine with 2.4Ghz, then I'd say go with that. I probably wouldn't take my own advice, though, because I like to fix things that aren't working as they should be.

What problem do you have after loading a few pages? Does it disconnect with a warning, or does it just stall and time out? With things like this, you can never provide too much information.

Cheers!

5ghz does not penetrate walls well.
anything else is a driver issue as my X200 with 5300 performed flawlessly when i had it on 5ghz bands
