Monitor output scaling issue

At the office I use my X200s on a dock with a 24" LCD @ 1920x1080p and it works fine. The cable I use is displayport to DVI. However, at home I use the same dock hooked up to my 42" 1080p LCD TV with displayport to HDMI, since my TV does not have a DVI input. The problem at home is that graphics properties say it is running at 1080p, but it is only using about 80% of the actual screen. The only way to fix it is to use Intel properties, and stretch the picture with the vertical and horizontal scaling bars which makes it look bad. Is it the cord that is the problem here?

I have the opposite problem. When I connect my 22" HD TV via DisplayPort to HDMI, the desktop is a little larger than the display and the taskbar icons are only partially visible .

It's funny, because I just hooked up my computer to my monitor at work, and had the same problem as my TV. However, in Intel graphics options, there is a box unchecked called "maintain aspect scaling" which was never there when hooking up my TV. I enabled it and it is back to normal, 1080p for the whole screen. I was about to uninstall my graphics drivers and do a reinstall. I hate when things don't work right!
