Other than using my iphone's headset, is there any other good headset? I notice that there isnt a big market for the splitter / combine Y cord as well. WTH was Lenovo thinking about? I cant use my headphone anymore unless I find that splitter or buy a usb headset.

it's a TRRS socket designed to work with any number of modern, readily-available cell phone headsets.   i use mine with my blackberry headset and couldn't be happier.   it's backward-compatible with all 1/8" stereo headphones just like cell phones and MP3 players with the same socket.

are you looking for a headset for VOIP or just headphones to listen to music?

I have not used that particular one, but I bought one similar from a local electronics shop.

my recommendation would be to buy a VIOP headset with a native TRRS jack so you don't need an adapter.   you can already plug any standard TRS jack headphones into the X220 so that's a non-issue.

I use Creative Auravana Live! One of the best "cheap" headphones IMO. Good sound compared for a fair price.

Is there a good set of wireless headphones for the X220. Kinda like the wireless mouse button or bluetooth headset?

I am tired of dealing with wires while watching movies on long airplane flights.

I'm probably not a good one to recommend headphones since I wear behind the ear hearing aids. However, I use Jabra Halo bluetooth headphones. I'm actually listening to SHOUTcast radio on my Jabra's paired to my X220 while typing this. I also use them with my Blackberry. Although there is no boom mic with the Jabra headset most people don't have a problem hearing me even when I'm driving in my Jeep and get a call. So, noise cancelling is pretty good. They are a pain to open and close and to turn them off you have to close them. They seem to have a little too much Bass for my poor hearing. I like a lot of Bass for music, but it makes hearing conversation with my Blackberry challenging. I charge them every night same as my Blackberry and they last all day. I'd say I have them on 8 to 10 hours a day. Usually paired to my blackberry(I drive a lot for work).

EDIT: They're also quite thin and you wont look like Mickey Mouse when you're wearing them.

I have a question in (more or less) relation to this thread subject:

A friend - who is right now in New York (Manhattan/Brooklyn) - has a X220T and would like to be able to use it for Skype etc. As we know, the X220T has a single "combo audio jack, 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) in diameter" connector which is used to simultanously connect the (stereo) headphones and a microphone. If an existing "old" headset (which has been used with a ThinkPad T500) - being this one --> Logitech ClearChat Style Premium Behind-the-Head PC Headset - could be used it would be nice, but this has headset however dual-3.5 mm connectors (see this mage); one for the headphones and one for the microphone, and therefore cannot be used with the X220T without a Y-cable of some kind.

In this post I'd thefore like to ask for advice with respect to recommending either:

1) A small, leightweight and good but not too expensive (below $40 if possible) headset for the X220T with headphones and microphone all in the same 3.5 mm connector... e.g. something like GE 98974 VoIP All-in-One Headset (also shown in Amazon's site),

2) An Y-cable (something like this) that can be used to connect the existing (dual-3.5 mm connector) headset to the X220T single-3.5mm input.

I'd very much appreciate if anyone could point to shops located preferably at Manhattan or in Brooklyn where you can just walk in and buy the part recommended - thnaks very much in advance!

NB: I'm not interested in USB-headsets since the X220T "only" has three USB-ports which (for this user) all are in use.

Or, you can do what I do and just whatever iPhone/Android/Blackberry 3.5mm compatible headset is good. I've an AltecLansing of some sort that I use at work on the d(h)ell that they issued me, or the Klipsch S4A headphones that I use at home and with my Android cellphone.

I'm sure that you could be able to get the headphones at B&H, The Wiz or at worst, Best(Worst) Buy; the adapter is a bit of a specialty item that no local store seems to carry (at least here in SoCal).

Ended up getting an Y-cable at Stables (only $ 4.99!); which was a bit cheaper compared to the Startech.com - 3.5mm 4 Pin to 2x 3 Pin 3.5mm Headset Splitter Adapter - M/F from BestBuy. Had considered getting the GE 98974 VoIP All-in-One Headset as mentioned above (as it has received fine customer-feedback both at Staples and at Amazon's sites), and had also considered getting the GE Voice over Internet All-in-One Foldable Headset Model 95432 which has received good customer-feedback by Staples customers, but much more poor feedback by Amazon customers.

Anyway, bottom line: Case solved!

@ ziggie216 you might want to consider 'beats by dre: studio' I use a pair on my t420 and the sound quality is pretty good. They're great to take outside with other mobile devices (phones, cassette players) and they recently came out in different colors! Only downsides are they require a pair of AAA batteries, and they're like $300 each :/
