I have a x200, will turn on, shows the Lenovo thinkpad splash screen and hangs there.. I left it on over night and still the same. Its like it's stuck, you can power it off by holding the power button. Does not respond to F1 for bios.

I think i'm getting a new motherboard off ebay but any suggestion ?

Try to reset the CMOS by removing the internal CMOS battery and removing all power from the machine for a few minutes then replacing it.

You can download a PC Doctor for DOS bootable CD from Lenovo and have it run some diagnostics, though you'll need an external optical drive.

That would work, but he can't get to that point in the boot process if it won't pass the POST screen.

The usual diagnostic procedure in this case would be to remove all hardware (memory, hard drive, optical drive, all plug-in motherboard cards, USB devices) and then power up the system. You should receive the "missing memory" beep code of 1-3-3-1 (1 short beep, pause, 3 beeps, pause 3 more beeps, pause, then 1 beep). If so, then your motherboard is at least working to some extent. Plug in a single memory module and then boot the system again. If the system is then able to get past the splash (POST) screen, then it's possible that something that's now sitting outside of the laptop is defective. Continue to plug in one device at a time and re-boot. If it gets to the point where the system hangs at POST, then the last thing you re-installed is probably bad.

edit: I just remembered that the POST hang may also be caused by a stuck key. For that, you might want to double-check all of the keys and see if they 'feel' right.

check the usb port whether they are okay, and is not broken in anyway.

Weird & funny..

So I bought a fixer upper x200 off ebay and didn't have any ddr3 lying around. I pop a stick in to new machine and decided to see if this non working one would boot up.

It booted with Intel Management Engine bios error. It would either boot past the post screen and go to unconfiguring or boot and shutdown immediately... I got into the bios screen randomly, never did before.

Finally after 2-3 days of random booting, it booted up to

"found unconfigure of intel ME
continue with unconfigration (y/n)"

I hit Y, the system rebooted a few times and it was able to let me into windows. I know on HP, theres a hot key for intel me configuration but I dont know it for thinkpad..

so this laptop has been dead like this for over 6 months... weird.. should have pull the memory as soon as i got it... didn't really think of it
