Fingerprint software issue

#1 Post by puma » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:48 pm

Hey guys I am having issues with the fingerprint reader after rebuilding the x220 I have. I loaded all the drivers and thinkvantage software. I see the icon for swipe at login.. but it is totally unresponsive. I tried doing some searching on this forum so i dont double post but couldnt find anything on this model.

Assuming Windows 7 here... try this:

1) Follow these instructions to disable automatic driver installation in Windows: Here
2) Uninstall the Lenovo fingerprint software
3) Uninstall the Authentec True Suite software.
4) Open the Device manager and uninstall the Authentec driver
5) Reboot
6) Re-enable Automatic driver installation. If you don't, the Lenovo SW won't install the driver.
7) Install the Lenovo fingerprint software.
8) Reboot

did it work?

Yes it is Win 7 sorry for not mentioning.
Question before I try this, does it matter if i don't see the Authentic True Suite software installed?

Hrm.. my bad, I read in your 1st post that you had "loaded all the drivers and thinkvantage software" ... the AuthenTec is part of that:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 67845.html

but... Authentec tends to conflict with the Lenovo fingerprint software, one of them (i forget which) installs through windows update

You can go ahead and safely follow the rest of the steps though (skipping of course #3)... This will at least get you a FRESH copy of the driver/software installed.

tried this... when i install the finerprint software again.. it does not load the driver. so right now it is not installed for the device. it is a UPEK or something not an authentic brand like you said.

Does windows recognize and have no problems with the reader in device manager?

I found this: TCSDiagnosticTest21.zip @ http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/t ... nostic.asp

Might wanna run it and see if it reports any errors...

Also, this is the reader software that comes up for the upek... it is version 5.93, it makes mention to uninstall versions 5.5 or lower before installing.

32bit: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-73583

64bit: can't seem to locate 5.93 for 64bit, dunno a version 5.6.2+ for 64bit that 5.9.4 says is needed to upgrade to 5.94 :/

here is version 5.94 which states in the readme.txt it needs versions 5.6.2 or higher installed beforehand... wierd...

32bit: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 73583.html

64bit: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 73585.html

P.S. We know windows 7 now... but do you have 32bit or 64bit (might be helpfull to know the rest too... home basic? ultimate? other?)
