X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
this thing took almost a month to ship
first thing, need to update the wireless driver.. else it's 500ms milliseconds ping
battery life.. can't say I am impressed with.. shows some 5 hrs of juice left.
screen.. pretty.. but what's up with nearly two inces on the bottom of real estate that could've been used for higher resolution... this could've definetely been 1400x900
screen is also wobbly.. i understand it's a tablet, but for a nearly 2000 machine, make it solid
battery sticking out (and wobbly), and what I am guessing an antenna on top of the screen do not make this look like a solid looking machine.
screen/pen.. the pen should've had more buttons.. e.g. a full screen botton, and a forward/back for browsers button, i find myself opening the laptop to adjust browser font/size.
lastly.. the screen is just too narrow for any modern website in tablet mode... I am hoping a pdf file fits well on it.

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
Sorry to hear about your disappointment. 2K is bit much for a tablet with limited number of softwares with touch or pen input support. I am waiting to see how Win 8 works out in tablets before plunging in.
I will probably go for an iPad whenever it comes with with double resolution 2048x1536 IPS display. I am hoping that Apple will eventually come out a tablet with a 11" or 12" super high resolution matte display for $800 or less. May be tablet builders will figure out how to build decent competitors to the iPad by then. If the tablets comes with an Intel CPU that can support a full blown OS with long enough battery time, even better.

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
it was 1874 including taxes and 3 year support, and I have a 160GB SSD version.
boot time is wonderful, but things above were disappointing.
i did not want a multitouch, because I don't like my screen dirty.

In every Tablet PC I have ever read about, the Wacom Penabled ™ digitizer and pen only supports two buttons. (Hint: the eraser is button 2.)netcomrade wrote:the pen should've had more buttons.. e.g. a full screen botton, and a forward/back for browsers button

for the forward/backward, enable windows flicks. it works like a charm. a pity you didn't take the multitouch, I don't have any problems with a dirty screen. and it is very useful for zooming in and out.netcomrade wrote:.. and a forward/back for browsers button, i find myself opening the laptop to adjust browser font/size.

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
isn't the multitouch screen also reflective? (e.g. doesn't have glare)
i take 'flicks' are a multitouch feature?

flicks are a pen feature built into windows 7 ink.netcomrade wrote:i take 'flicks' are a multitouch feature?

it works with external drawing tablets, too, like the wacom intuos and bamboo.

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
thanks.. now the screen is moving a few millimeters on me too.. will post a separate thread.
edit: probably no point of posting, obviously a hardware issue, if I touch the screen, issue goes away.

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
The multitouch screen on thinkpads look quite dim because of extra layers of coating on the surface. It isn't as reflective as ipad but I didn't like the look of a multitouch LCD on X201 tablet. It didn't look good at all as it was obscuring the beautiful IPS or AFFS LCD on X201t.netcomrade wrote:isn't the multitouch screen also reflective? (e.g. doesn't have glare)

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
This will be the first Thinkpad I'll be returning, or at least attempting to.
The screen flickering I reported earlier, is rather persistent, especially after waking up. You have to move the screen back and forth for it to go away.
The tablet mode turned out to not be so useful, due to limited resolution, as PDFs don't fit well enough to be very readable (word seemed fine, probably due to bigger fonts), so I'll try to get a non-tablet version instead.
Hoping for a more solid screen and smaller size. Too bad I'll have to wait another 6-8 weeks before I get it due to SSD delays.
I'll report if Lenovo charges me a restocking fee..

IIRC, the X220t doesn't have a ThinkLight.

Doh.. now "in the light" i can see there isn't oneColonel O'Neill wrote:IIRC, the X220t doesn't have a ThinkLight.
Update: Called support, they offered an LCD replacement.. I told them that I am not confident I'll enjoy it, as I don't find the tablet to be durable.. they tranfered me to sales, which had no problem arranging a return with a pre-paid UPS label (which I already got).. So contrary to some report that "Lenovo support sucks" this went pretty smoothly.

Re: X220 tablet first impressions (not as awesome as expected)
I got my replacement (really a new order) X220 today, and couldn't be happier as far as shape and build feel goes.
Still gotta figure out this outside screen flickering issue, but I am sure it's some cable issue.
