x220 as x220i?
x220 as x220i?
Few days ago my X220 was shipped to me:
core i5 2520 2,5ghz
IPS screen
8gb ram
cheapest 250GB(im going to install ssd)
intel wifi 6205 etc
I wanted to make bios update and then when I used Quick Path to search drivers and when I typed my model 4286-CTO it says X220i Configure To Order :O
Anybody else got that thing? Im wondering why my x220 is shown as x220i? I was scammed by seller or thats normal?
PS. anybody got luck with removing whitelist from 1.17 bios to x220? I have 1.16 without whitelist but I wan flash to 1.17 cuz it fix the throttle issue as i read on lenovo site.

Re: x220 as x220i?
It is meaningless. Did you get the specs you ordered? If so you're fine. The only difference between X220/X220i is that the latter is configured with lower-end (core i3) CPUs.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Re: x220 as x220i?
The "i" is there because if the i3 cpu. That's why there is no "i" model with a i5 cpu.
Re: x220 as x220i?
Did you read my 1st post? On the lenovo site when Im typing my model number(4286-CTO) from the sticker under my x220 with core i5 says that i have x220i!?ssd_thinkpad wrote:The "i" is there because if the i3 cpu. That's why there is no "i" model with a i5 cpu.

Re: x220 as x220i?
There is some problem on lenovos site as per definition a x220 can only be equipped with a i3 cpu. Because it is important to you, I would mail a representative from lenovo about it.alhaz wrote:Did you read my 1st post? Re: x220 as x220i?
There are x220i with i5 CPUs - check for example lenovo configurator on UK or French site. In France I can have x220i with either i3-2310M or i5-2410M. It is only on lenovo US that x220i is available only with i3. Hope that helps
X31, X32, T420,
Takumars 20/4.5, S-M-C 24/3.5, S-M-C 28/3.5, S-M-C 35/2, S-M-C 35/3.5, SMC 50/1.4, 55/1.8, S-M-C 85/1.8, 85/1.9, S-M-C 135/2.5

Re: x220 as x220i?
Well my x220 have core i5-2520M so its kinda weird. I dont know if its problem on lenovo site or what. On the box that came with my laptop it says x220 not x220i. My lenovo came from US so its more than weird.X32 wrote:There are x220i with i5 CPUs - check for example lenovo configurator on UK or French site. Re: x220 as x220i?
I can't believe this thread has gone so long, over nothing...
1) The information Lenovo's website displays for CTO configurations is unreliable, plain and simple, because there are hundreds or even thousands of CTO (customized-to-order) configurations out there, and Lenovo's site gives you NO information.
2) In the event that the same 4 digit model type refers to several possible models (and it happens), the CTO information will only display one of them. Go ahead, type 2373-CTO. It will come back with "T40", although the same model number also refers to some T41/T42 machines. So if I have a T42 2373-CTO, I should now raise heck because the stupid website said that my T42 is a T40? Please...
3) X220 and X220i are exactly the same machine. I repeat - exactly the same machine. The only difference is the hardware you put inside. Lenovo decided that if there is an i3 inside, it will be labeled X220i, otherwise X220. Your machine was configured with a Core i5, therefore it is an X220. Does your machine say X220 or X220i on the clearplate?

Anybody can answer me about my second question about whitelist? I have found 1.16 without whitelist but I need 1.17. I decomposed bios and got many *.rom files and I dont know where to remove whitelist code ;/
Re: x220 as x220i?
not always. previous 'i' models also included i5 LV processors.dr_st wrote:Lenovo decided that if there is an i3 inside, it will be labeled X220i, otherwise X220. Your machine was configured with a Core i5, therefore it is an X220.
the only thing the 'i' serves as is a marketing tool and a means to confuse customers. even customers who think they know what the 'i' means don't always know.

Re: x220 as x220i?
also you do know that Lenovo makes typo mistake on the product description webpage, so there could be a chance that someone accidentally entered the extra i into the whole thing.
If your laptop doesn't have the i moniker on the sticker then why are you so worried, it is not as if you are getting less amount of parts with the X220i laptop. As long as the spec matches, then everything should be a okay.

Re: x220 as x220i?
I ordered from USA my X220 with a Core i5 2520m, IPS HD Premium display, 320GB 7.500 rpm HD, 4GB RAM and fingerprint reader, thus it is a CTO model. Machine arrived as configured, box labels and bottom plate say it is a X220 model: 4286-CTO so this definitely is my baby! a X220, no changes made in the delivery process, however Lenovo insists in changing its surmame for X220i as happened to my Polish friend! I don´t care a damm about that (father don´t want to recognize its baby haha).
As dr_st says this is meaningless. Lenovo should take more care in its automatic identification system it used to work fine before their web design change, which by the way seems ugly and confusing to me.
Have a nice week end.

Re: x220 as x220i?
Well actually, now when you will type 4286-CTO on lenovo site, you can choose betweeb x220 and x220i so I think they fixed this now
Re: x220 as x220i?
And In your case when you hit autodetect what model is being aknowledged?
Re: x220 as x220i?
Dear alhaz and forum friends, the bug has been fixed in the Lenovo's support page and the CTO machines are now well identified when you use autodetect option.
