Has anyone heard any rumblings about UEFI on the X220?

I haven't gotten mine yet (still waiting for the month-long shipping) but doing some reading on google it looks like it's possible

Can anyone weigh in?

yes, it's possible.   as of right now the fingerprint reader won't work using lenovo's software and can't be used for single sign-on.   other than that everything should be ok.

having tested it on my X220, boot times aren't any quicker than with a properly set up legacy BIOS installation.   i can get both down to 20~25 seconds using windows server 2008 R2 and an intel 320-series SSD.   windows 7 should be a bit quicker.

UEFI probably won't be ready for prime time until ivy bridge.   it's a bit of a band-aid right now.

Yes, X220 comes with UEFI bios installed, however boot time is not as short as it should be

Hi there - long time lurker (since my first Thinkpad - a T41p), first time poster.

I wrote the article. :)

It most certainly is possible. I've got the fingerprint reader working as well, with the fix I mentioned on my site (which I was given by Lenovo).

My boot time is around 11 seconds or so with Win 7 and UEFI and a Kingston SSD I put in myself.

That said, my X220 is going back for repair - I have the screen bleed issue, and the fingerprint reader is very flaky (unrelated to EFI - I put a legacy BIOS installation of Win7 on another hard drive and swapped back and I still have a flaky fingerprint reader).

Hope this helps.
