Warranty questions

Hi folks

Need some feedback. Does anyone knows whether the warranty offers from lenovo for thinkpads start from the date of manufacture, or continues from the date of expiry of the current warranty?

For example, my machine's warranty begun on 16 June 2011, and expires on 25 June 2012. If I would like to extend my warranty for 2 more years (i.e. until 25 June 2014), which of the following should I buy?

Warranty service upgrades Help me decide
ThinkPlus Maintenance Services offer you a variety of service level upgrades for your home or business systems. Use our convenient services to enhance or extend your hardware service coverage beyond its systems standard warranty term. Note that these upgrades do start, retroactively, to the purchase date of your system. Consult your Lenovo Sales Representative for Post Warranty offerings to extend beyond the current term of your base warranty.
None $0.00

1Yr Onsite Warranty Next Business Day $39.00

1Yr Priority Onsite Warranty $39.00

2Yr Basic Warranty Extension $69.00 <-- does this mean 2 years after my current warranty expires? so in 2014? Or 2 years in total (in 2013)?

3Yr Basic Warranty Extension $119.00

2Yr Priority Onsite Warranty $119.00

2Yr Onsite Warranty Next Business Day $139.00

4Yr Priority Onsite Warranty $259.00

3Yr Priority Support Onsite Warranty $279.00

5Yr Priority Onsite Warranty $389.00

From my experience the warranty will begin sometime after the build date to what I think is a fair amount of time to get to the end user. As an example a recent W520 with a build date of 3/19/11 has a warranty start date of 5/1/11.

If you want to add 2 years to your warranty you need to purchase the 3 year offerings which includes your 1 year warranty.

In the US speaking to a telephone rep can result in a nice discount from the quoted web rates. Not sure what happens outside of the US. Once a forum member in Indonesia asked that I check on a warranty upgrade for them. The cost for me to purchase the upgrade for them seemed to be significantly less than they could get it for in Indonesia.

I hope this answers your questions.

Brad
