Double clicking behavior on trackpoint buttons

I have a new X220. About half the time when I press the left trackpoint button it "clicks" twice, in effect. For example, clicking to add a checkmark in a box will add and delete it. Using the calculator will enter a number twice when clicking on it once. Clicking in a vertical scroll bar will make it jump twice. When several programs are open on the taskbar, clicking on an icon to bring it forward will do so then it will immediately jump back. Any thoughts?

UPDATE: No problem so far with external keyboard. Called Lenovo. They're sending a new keyboard (which includes the buttons). Fingers crossed.

Put in new keyboard. Same intermittent issue. Then, it dawned on me -- I was accidentally touching the touchpad sometimes when pushing a button. Kind of embarrassing, but I didn't know.

I had the exact same problem. Took a couple of erratic clics to understand the problem.

Enabling the palmcheck or restricting the tapping region in the synaptics driver helps (it's disabling the touchpad for a couple of ms when the trackpoint is used). But its behavior is unpredictable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
