X220 ThinkVantage & Battery remaining

#1 Post by dorukg » Fri Aug 12, 2011 7:17 am

Recently I've got myself the X220 (4286 c13) model during a business trip to Shanghai since it was much! cheaper then in Switzerland even though the device lacks some (non-vital) aspects of a x220 with the 2520 cpu. Basically the only bothering thing I had to do was wipe Win7basic off the disc and replace it with my Win7pro 64bit. After taking care of this minor issue I installed all of the Thinkvantage tools (at least i think so) and nearly all the keys are working properly except the blue ThinkVantage button ... is there a specific tool that i missed that enables the button & it's functionality?

Further more I'm wondering if the Thinkvantage functionality during the booting-phase will work anf if not how i could rebuild it so that it'll help me to reset my computer on "factory" level again (win7pro not that crappy win7basic)

last but not least i noticed that my x220 has two different battery runtimes ... the thinkvantage tool gives me at 82% h6:12 and the windows meter h6:40 while sometimes the discrepancy is even around 1h or 1.5h ... (i would love to have the 1-1.5h longer time to go with)

many thanks for your advices!

You need Lenovo Win7pro 64bit recovery discs for the X220. Post a WTB Ad in the marketplace forum. You should be able to use those with your OEM license.

for the thinkvantage button to function under a clean installation, make sure you have the hotkey driver, system interface driver (part of the hotkey package), and productivity center installed.

hotkey features: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-74261
productivity center: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-61378

The Thinkvantage button will not work on boot into rescue and recovery unless you have a factory load, which is accomplished by installing with Lenovo recovery discs. Personally I don't think the productivity center is worth the time it takes to install it, but each to his own.

rescue & recovery works at preload though, no?   if not then yes you'd need original media.

honestly, i don't use any of these apps besides hotkey and power manager so i'm just pointing at what makes the thinkvantage button itself function.
