Observations about my x220

Couple strange things i have noticed on my new x220. Anyone else noticed the following?

1. When connected to my external display via DisplayPort-DVI adapter, the image on the external screen shakes from left to right frequently. That is, the screen makes sudden small lateral jerks. Of course it doesn't do this on the laptop display. External screen is a Samsung 214T. Adapter is from Lenovo.

2. When the laptop is powered off and the lid is open the think-light flashes occasionally for a micro-second. This happens whether the AC adapter is plugged in or not. I'm interested to see if this is common.

3. The notification lights at the bottom of the screen bezel (Wifi, BT, HDD) are somewhat dim when compared to my T43, T60P, T61P, and T510. Not that they need to be blinding, but there is a significant difference.

1. I haven't used that port, so no comment.

2. I haven't noticed that, and can't test it at present, but the same thing happens when the laptop is powered on, so I'd think this is not that strange.

3. Yes, they are strangely dim - too dim, IMO.

1 - no comment yet

2 - never saw this on my machine

3 - my lights are fine - just as bright as on my X300 and X61s. Any brighter would be distracting imo

1- never use display port, could be a driver problem or the monitor?
2- don't have that issue
3- yes, is very dim on mine too

Interesting turn of events today. Not long after my first post my laptop screen started to have some issues. It would get very dim to the point that i couldn't even see icons or anything. Then it would come back to full brightness. This happened on and off for about half an hour until the screen went completely black. I rebooted several times, with/without battery and external screen. Laptop screen = dead. Called Lenovo support and ran through some tests. Turns out to be a graphics card/power-inverter issue. The tech acted like he had seen the issue before.

So after 4 days with the new laptop it's getting shipped back and a replacement will be sent. What really bothers me is that i already transfered some important files to this machine which i can't access or remove. I guess i could take the drive out and mount it to another machine.

Anyway, if you use the display port and your external screen is jittery beware!
