X220 - can I add fingerprint reader?

#1 Post by Tony's X60s » Mon Sep 12, 2011 8:13 pm

I have just taken delivery of a nice new X220 (4286-CTO) but was disappointed to find it didn't have a fingerprint reader - I should have read the fine print more carefully :( In every other respect it is great. Can I buy a palmrest with fingerprint reader and simply fit it?

It's never as good as you hope and never as bad as you fear.

Thanks rreis - now ordered from Lenovo and expected in less than a week. Cost: about $AUD109 delivered including GST. I'll post a progress report when I fit it.

there are some videos around from lenovo that show you how to do it (in case you haven't found them yet)

All done. New palm rest arrived in one day. Fitting took about 30 minutes (being very careful) and I ran Lenovo updates which downloaded and installed the fingerprint software and rebooted. I opened the software and enrolled my prints and everything is sweet.
