How are you picking it up? One handed holding by a corner?

Go update your firmware on that Seagate drive because the Momentus XT is known for its random lockups.

You might also want to uninstall the Active Protection System if you have it installed and see if that changes anything.

If the drive is spun down, and you go and pick it up, you'll experience some lag until the drive fully recovers since APS will stop the drive from spinning up until it's on the level.

Please take a look at this. It's on Seagate's forums themselves and describes others with more random lockups.

If nothing fixes the problem, RMA the drive when convenient to your reseller or Seagate themselves.
Seagate offers a cross-shipping program so the new drive will come first before you send yours back (though I can't remember if you have to pay extra for that now- I know that you don't with WD).

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.

I wouldn't uninstall APS, I'd just go and disable it.

It's generally intentional behavior though; it locks the hard drive when it detects motion in case the motion is a drop or something. That protects your hard drive and decreases the likelihood and severity of damage from a drop.
