Wireless adapter upgrade on T420 -- worth it?

Hi All,
I am considering purchasing a T420 and wondered about what options I should get. Specifically, I wanted to know more about the available wireless adapter options. I can choose either the standard Thinkpad 1x1 or upgrade to the various Intel wireless adapters.
Does anyone have any experience with these different wireless setups? I would assume that the Intel adapters are better (obviously) but what sort of improvement could one expect in terms of holding weak signals or boosting download speeds? Do they improve the whole wifi experience or are they only effective in maintaining connectivity when the signal is weak, for example?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
