T400s - Full Wireless Signal - Slow Speedtest.net Result - ?

#1 Post by HLG600 » Fri Dec 02, 2011 1:02 pm

Advertised 50 mb/s download speed and 8 mb/s upload speed from ISP. I have an Airport Extreme router broadcasting the wireless signal.

The X200 we have picks up the full advertised speed with a 5ms ping.
On my T400s, I cannot crack 25 mb/s and regularly see a ping range of 15-25ms.
Both have 5 full bars of signal, with a connection speed that fluctuates between 130-240+ mb/s.

I have the Intel 5100 wireless card with 2 antennas, which is the same as on the X200 I believe.

Not sure what is causing the variance. I would appreciate some thoughts.

Thank you!

Can't seem to locate anything in the power manager. Can you please advise what I am looking for specifically?

Also, I tried updating to the latest driver on the wireless card but still nothing.

Thank you.

You need to go to the advanced mode of Power Manager.

There'll be an entry for Wireless Power Savings. Make sure this is set to Max Performance on AC, and possibly on battery.

I adjusted everything to the maximum. Hardly a change. Went a little bit deeper into the settings but this is over my head. Screen shot below:

For what it's worth...
I have a T410 with Intel 6200.
Clean install of Win7 Pro with all newest drivers and updates.
Was connecting to my Dlink wi fi N router at 85 to 105 Mbps.

Went into the settings and changed it from "20 MHz only" to "Auto" and now it's connecting at the full 300MBps.....
