Thinkpad T410 DisplayPort to HDMI problems

I recently bought this adapter.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170690250869
After plugging this into my computer and then using an HDMI cable to connect to my TV, I have been unable to get anything to show up on my TV. I don't have another laptop to test this with at the moment. What type of settings do I have to use to set up my video card? Are there any special drivers that I need? I have the Nvidia Optimus (NVS3100m and Intel HD switchable) setup on my laptop. Thanks in advance for the help.

If the display port to HDMI adapter is working correctly, and the HDMI cable to link it to your TV is working correctly, then you should get a picture on your TV set.
You probably won't get sound from the TV without another adapter from the headphone jack on your T410 to your RCA sockets on the TV.
You might have been sold a duff piece of kit.

I know that the HDMI cable works since I use it with other components. I have all of the Lenovo drivers installed for video so I don't think the laptop is the problem. If it's supposed to just work that simply, I guess it must be an adapter issue. I'll start going through an exchange process and I'll try to remember to report back my findings.

@runningman414: Apologies, my last post should have started by welcoming you to the forums. Welcome!
The display adapter joint needs a good shove to ensure it connects with your T410.
If the HDMI cable has worked before it is OK. Make sure it is given a good shove too.
The suspect part is the new bit.

I have had little luck with that kind of adapter. My T410 worked with a TV with a DP-HDMI cable.
These seem to be tough to find now. I've heard there are legal issues with the HDMI association.
I ordered this one to try:

Should arrive tomorrow - I'll post a follow up.

It works just fine.

Try choosing different output resolutions to see if any of them work.

I've only had 50/50 luck on these cables. A lot of them seem to be bad. Try another one.

That's been my experience too, with cheap, Chinese, e-Bay offerings - 2 minidisplayport to HDMI adapters for my T430 - one worked just fine (audio and video) the other, nothing. Figure on getting 2 for every one you need, effectively doubling the price. Amazon then doesn't look so bad!

They are two types of those adapters - passive and active. Passive have just two connectors, and gpu is detecting it and outputs hdmi signal to displayport. But not every gpu supports it (as it needs additional circuits), in this case only active ones work (they have some uC that converts true dp into true hdmi signal). It may be imposssible to distinguish them without manufacturer description, as active ones often does not have any external oower supply and are as small as passive. You may look for threads about displayport to hdmi adapters and amd eyefinity - in case of ATI EF only active ones works, so it's good knowledgebase to find right one.

AFAIK, The T410 GPUs (both ATI and Intel) support HDMI over DP. Does anyone know differently?

I do know that ATI is not a possible T410 GPU, only choice is Intel or Nvidia NVS 3100M.

T400 has possibility of ATi+Intel combo, but it doesn't have DP.
If this card would be able to output HDMI via DP, then every adapter should work. And remember that "card can handle it" doesn't mean "manufacturer implemented it in hw"
