Max Fan Speed on T400 W7x64

#1 Post by regiss » Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:09 pm

Hi everyone,

I have been testing my laptop T400 W7x64 8GB RAM with IntelBurnTestV2 and it gets shut down as fans are not running fast enough.
Max is around 3200RPM.

My config file.
Level=35 1
Level=45 1
Level=50 2
Level=52 3
Level=54 4
Level=56 5
Level=58 6
Level=60 7
Level=65 64
Level=75 128

I was previously able to run my Fan around 4500 when using Linux Ubuntu 11.10
Has anybody idea why fan is not spinning faster?

Update:
Fan Speed has eventually changed to 4500, however it was too late to prevent system from shutting down.
Will test bit more and report back

Thank you for any help.

Check the power management settings in the BIOS. Is SpeedStep enabled?

If you have Hyper threading, try the test again with that OFF.

Have you tried manual setting on tpfcontrol? When I use IntelBurnTest, the BIOS will take over control back from tpfcontrol as soon as the processor hits 82C.

Has the computer been dropped before or are there any cracks in the bottom or top covers of the case?

When you are not benchmarking it, what rpms can you manually set the fan to? On my T410, which is kind of similar, I can set it to level 8 which is 5400rpm and level 7 is 4500rpm.

I will check your suggestions and report back.

When I am trying to set Mode to Manual it jumps back to Smart in a second. Any reason why?
Cheers
